Former state Rep. Beverly Burnsed Spencer, who represented a Lakeland district, died Nov. 28 in Tallahassee. She was 78. She spent 35 years working for the state as a teacher, state legislator, assistant secretary of state and university vice president.

Former Mayor Carl Dicks Dies at 90
Former Lakeland Mayor and longtime City Commissioner Carl Dicks died Wednesday at his home. He was 90 years old. He is believed to have been among the longest serving city commissioners, serving 24 years from 1972 to 1996.
