Starting June 19, Yates Road will be closed for 60 days between West Pipkin and Ewell roads.
Why it’s closing: The closure is to install a new water main and drainage along the approach to West Pipkin Road. The road will be restored with improved access and turn lanes from north of Brook Drive to West Pipkin.
The big picture: This is part of Polk County’s ongoing $55.6 million project to widen West Pipkin from two lanes to four lanes between Medulla Road and Harden Boulevard. Work began in August 2021 and is currently scheduled to end in early to mid-November.
As the project heads toward completion, the intersections of feeder roads are being upgraded. Lunn Road was closed for similar work last month but will be fully open before the Yates closure begins. Airside Center Drive was closed in March.
Detours: Residents of the Forestgreen and Forestbrook subdivisions will be able to access their homes, but other traffic will be detoured along Lunn Road or County Line Road to Ewell Road.
Weather delay: The road was originally scheduled to close this week, but the start date was pushed back because of expected heavy rains.
