Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) delivers over 400 hundred meals two days each week to clients who are unable to prepare food for themselves through its Hot Meals program.
The organization also supplies more than 1,200 households with supplemental groceries each month. Clients pick up groceries, and volunteers deliver to those needing assistance.
While VISTE currently has enough drivers for Thanksgiving meals, the nonprofit is seeking additional volunteers to meet growing demand for both the Hot Meals and Supplemental Groceries programs during regular weeks.
Drivers delivering hot meals pick-up from First Presbyterian Church between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. According to VISTE, meal recipients are some of the organization’s most frail clients, and the volunteer making the delivery may be the only person who visits each week.
Grocery deliveries run Saturday through the following Friday, with no Sunday delivery. Volunteers with both programs are expected to check on the recipient’s well-being.
VISTE is a community-based, non-profit organization serving people 70 and older in Lakeland, Bartow, Mulberry, and Fort Meade.
