Terry Coney is elected to the City Commission and will take office at the first commission meeting in January 2026. As the only candidate for the District B Northeast seat, Coney’s seat has been decided by acclamation.

“I’m honored. I was surprised that it turned out this way, but maybe that was divine intervention,” Coney said. “I’m excited and I’m ready to take on the challenge.”

Stephanie Madden, an unopposed incumbent candidate for At-Large: Seat 1 on the city commission, has also been re-elected by acclamation.

“We live in the best city, and I am grateful for the privilege to work on behalf of our citizens for four more years,” Madden said via text message.

The qualifying period for Lakeland’s Nov. 4 city election ended today at noon, solidifying the ballot.  Candidates for the three remaining positions, including mayor, are set.

Mayor

District C Southwest

District D Southeast

There will also be three proposed charter amendments on the ballot.

Lakeland’s city elections are nonpartisan. Candidates do not formally declare their party affiliation.
