IN WITH THE NEW: Lakeland City Commissioner Scott Franklin is asking city staff to revamp the budget process. Traditionally, a workday is spent with each department explaining its long and short term goals. Commissioners are then asked which goals the departments should pursue. This year, Franklin wants the day to put more focus on the desires of the commissioners.

OUT WITH THE OLD: Citing a current lack of need, Lakeland City Commissioners will vote on repealing an ordinance put in place during the post-2008 housing crisis. With many homes in foreclosure, the city commission required banks and lending companies to register all homes they held and to ensure they kept up house and yard maintenance. Lakeland staff believe the problem is far less and the administrative costs are no longer justified.
