DENIED: Polk County Commissioners voted 4-1 to deny an application to build a 1.4 million-square-foot warehouse complex on Pace Road near Florida Polytechnic University. The commissioners seemed swayed by the argument that the warehouse complex would hinder FPU hopes of a research center adjacent to the university.

INTOXICATED: Christobal Lopez, the homeless man fatally shot by former Lakeland City Commissioner Michael Dunn in October, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.33 — more than four times the legal level for driving. His autopsy also revealed two bullets punctured his lungs and pierced his heart. Lopez was shot once in the left side of his torso and once in the middle of his back. He died at the scene.

GRAND THEFT AUTO: Two teenagers, 16-year-old Dominic Provenzano of 2700 block of Highlands Creek Drive in Lakeland and 15-year-old Shain Gilkey of 5500 block of Third St. S.E. in Lakeland, were charged with felony grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of a conveyance, and petty theft when Provenzano was arrested getting in a stolen 2016 Dodge Charger. According to the Lakeland Police Department, Gilkey was “cooperative and confessed” that the two were involved when three cars were burglarized and one car was stolen near Highland City.

HIT AND RUN DRIVER SOUGHT: Police are looking for the driver of a “a 1999-2006 dark-colored GMC Yukon or a 1999-2006 dark-colored Chevrolet or Tahoe” that left the scene of an accident Tuesday morning. The SUV stuck and injured Elani Miller, 17, of Lakeland as she walked on Swindell Road, just east of Pineville Lane.
