POLK COUNTY SCHOOLS: Polk County schools are adding tape to classroom floors to direct students to an area where bullets fired through the classroom door should not reach. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd likened the taped areas to the duck-and-cover drills of his youth, “I can remember as a child when we had drills of climbing under your desk whenever there was the Cuban missile crisis and the school did that back in the day to protect us.”

LOGISTICS CENTER: Some area and Florida Polytechnic leaders have differing views about a planned logistics center near the university. Earlier this month the Polk County Planning Commission voted 7-0 to approve the center and Polk County commissioners will hear the plan on January 8th.

CITY COMMISSION RACE: Of the three candidates for the January 15th race for the Southwest seat, Sara Roberts McCarley was the only one to report to report contributions and expenditures. Patrick Shawn Jones and William Watts reported no activity.
