RCE Foundation's 2023 Pickleball Unites event in Lakeland | RCE Foundation

It must be Pickleball Day in Lakeland.

This morning, we told you about the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour, which is coming to Lakeland Nov. 18-23. Now we have word that the RCE Foundation is bringing back its Pickleball Unites Event on Sept. 13.

Titled “Smash for a Cause!”, the RCE event is open to all Lakeland-area residents, who are invited to play pickleball “for a purse or a purpose.” it will be held at the Grasslands Golf & Country Club, 1600 Grasslands Blvd., in Lakeland, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All skill levels

The RCE Pickleball event will be “a community-centered day of sports, inclusion, and impact,” states an RCE news release. Pickleball players of all skill levels are invited to participate.

“Choose between two brackets: the Champions Bracket, where players compete for $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd, and $150 for 3rd, or the Play for the Cause Bracket, designed for those who want to support the RCE Foundation’s mission while enjoying a more relaxed game,” the release says.

“Using a rally scoring system, matches are fast-paced and fun. This is more than just a tournament, this event is about bringing the community together to have fun, connect, and make a difference.”

Proceeds from the event will directly support RCE Foundation’s mission to provide financial assistance to families facing hardships — whether due to medical needs, loss of insurance, or limited household income, according to the release. Funds will be used for vital therapy services, supplies, and materials that improve the recipient’s quality of life.

“This event is about more than pickleball,” Stephen Rossiter, Founder of the RCE Foundation, said in the release. “It’s about bringing our community together to uplift families who are often navigating incredibly tough circumstances. It’s a celebration of resilience, inclusion, and hope.”
