The Rose Dynasty Foundation, in partnership with Pineapple Healthcare, will host the first-ever Rainbow Roots Festival from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Lake Mirror Auditorium, 121 S. Lake Ave., Lakeland.

The free, family-friendly event celebrates queer creativity and resilience during LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day. 

What to expect:

  • More than 30 local and LGBTQ+ owned vendors
  • Live entertainment and performances 
  • Family art zone and concessions
  • BBQ from Bad Dog BBQ

“Right now more than ever is the time to come together and celebrate how deep the roots of queer art and history run,” said Jason DeShazo, executive director of Rose Dynasty Foundation, in a press release.

Weekend highlights:

  • Friday, Oct. 10: “1946” film screening sponsored by the First United Methodist Church and the Interfaith Coalition of Polk County at the Junior League Sorosis Building — a documentary on faith, translation and LGBTQ+ inclusion (6:30 p.m)
  • Saturday, Oct. 11: “Forever Fierce” drag show at The Rose Dynasty Center (8 p.m., $8 cover, 18+)
