Dennis Odisho

Dennis Odisho has declared his candidacy for Lakeland City Commission in required paperwork submitted to the city.

Odisho, 46, is a construction project manager who is seeking to represent District C, Southwest.

That seat is held by Sara Roberts McCarley, who is running for mayor.

The election will be held Nov. 4. Lakeland city elections are nonpartisan.

To date, Odisho is unopposed.

Smart growth: Odisho has been a resident of Florida for over 20 years, moving to Lakeland in 2016. In 2023, he ran for a commission at-large seat and lost to incumbent Chad McLeod, coming in third.

According to his campaign website, Odisho is driven by the potential that he sees in Lakeland as one of the fastest growing cities in the county. With his background in construction and project management, he says his perspective and experience will be an asset in pursuing “smart growth.”

He’d like to see Lakeland attract the “best organizations and businesses.”

Odisho is a project director focused on health care-related projects for the Tampa branch of the Manhattan Construction Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also heavily involved in local organizations. Currently, he serves on the Lakeland Police Athletic League Board of Directors and an advisory council of the Everglades University Tampa Construction Management Program. He also volunteers for ACE Mentor Polk County.

Odisho earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University.

He was not immediately available for an interview.
