Beginning at 4 a.m. this Saturday, July 19, CSX will close the North Florida Avenue railroad crossing for construction. The closure is expected to extend through Tuesday, July 22, at 10 p.m.

The crossing is between Pine Street and Main Street.

“This closure is part of a phased construction schedule to improve critical infrastructure along the CSX rail line,” the city of Lakeland said in a news release.

“Motorists are encouraged to use State Road 563/Harden-Sikes Boulevard as an alternate route.”

Downtown remains open and accessible, the city said. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and use caution while traveling near the construction zone.
