At LkldNow, we’re reading “Smart Brevity” by the founders of Axios and Politico and it’s clarifying for us how to improve on being a “reader first” newsroom. You might notice some changes over the coming months as we experiment with how we communicate the news to better serve you. I’m starting here and now.

Coming next week: Space is filling up but there’s still time to register for LkldNow’s Candid Conversation lunch event with Prof. Risdon Slate. We’ll dig into the intersection of mental health and criminal justice on Tuesday, May 14, at noon.

What you need to know:
* It’s free but registration is required.
* Boxed lunches will be provided.
* It’s going to include some heavy topics and frank discussion on mental illness as well as practical solutions and what is being done locally.

Learn more and register.
