Publix is giving some details of what will be different at its Lake Miriam Square store, now under reconstruction, at 4730 S. Florida Ave.
When it reopens, it will be in what a Publix spokesperson calls “our newer, larger format.”
That will encompass “expanded offerings like burrito bowls and a pizza oven in the deli,” Publix Media Relations Manager Hannah Herring said Friday via email.
“There will also be a Pours area where customers can order smoothies and acai bowls or grab a drink and sip while they shop.”

Two other Publix stores in the Tampa Bay area already have this format, Herring noted — at Gandy Shopping Center, which opened in March 2023, and at Innovation Springs in Wesley Chapel, which opened in January 2024.
This will mark the first appearance of the new format in Lakeland. Herring did not specify when it will reopen.
The Lake Miriam store closed in July. The demolition and remodeling was listed in city records as valued at $11.5 million and entails expansion into the adjacent retail spaces formerly occupied by the Aprons cooking school, Grapevine Fine Wine & Spirits and the Lakeland eLibrary.
“Our Lake Miriam store has been a beloved store for many years,” Herring said, “and we look forward to reopening and welcoming back customers to try all the new offerings.”
