Longtime Polk County educator Edwin Arthur Vetter died May 14, 2025, at Good Shepherd Hospice following a battle with cancer and Parkinson’s Disease.

Vetter was the founding principal of The International Baccalaureate School at Bartow High School, 1980 Polk County Teacher of the Year, and a beloved longtime science teacher at Kathleen Senior High School.

Funeral services for Vetter are set for Saturday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church on Lake Morton.

His ashes will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico during a private ceremony this summer.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his name to the Polk Education Foundation for student scholarships.
