At the beginning of April, we told you about Patricia Rose Brady, an 18-year-old senior at Lake Gibson High school who had become a finalist in Theatre Odyssey’s  Student 10-Minute Playwriting Festival.

On May 11, at Asolo Repertory Theatre, in Sarasota, Brady took the top award at the festival, the 2025 Verna Safran Prize.

Her play “A Memory Away,” about a mother’s grief after a school shooting, was an audience favorite and earned Brady $1,000.

For the next year, Lake Gibson High will be home to a plaque with the previous winners and now with Brady’s name.
