
Gertrude A. “Trudy” (Hodgdon) Duhamel, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully at the age of 97 on October 3, 2022. Trudy was the wife of the late Robert A. Duhamel Sr.. Born in Middleboro, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Caroline E. (Sears) Hodgdon.
She was a graduate of Middleboro High School and before her retirement was employed at Foot Joy Shoe Company for 18 years. Previously she had been employed at Stall and Dean in Brockton where she enjoyed making the Boston Red Sox uniforms.
While a resident of Brockton, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of its choir and St. Ann’s Sodality. Previously, she was also a communicant of St. Colman Church, the Ladies Sodality, Legion of Mary and St. Paul’s Guild.
She moved to Lakeland, Florida where she was called the “cross lady” because she diligently cross-stitched “crosses in the pocket” and shared them with everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing Bingo, bowling, doing “search the word” puzzle books, and watching the Red Sox Games.
“Trudy” is survived by her children, Robert A. Duhamel Jr. from Basking Ridge, N.J., and Donna M. Aponte and her husband, Merle Rogers from Lakeland, Florida.
She is predeceased by her son, William Duhamel, her sister, Lorraine Cybulski of New Bedford, her sister, Pearl Swietlowicz of New Hampsire, and her brother, Charles Hodgdon of Brookesville, Fl..
She loved and enjoyed her five grandchildren, Marc Duhamel, Colleen (Duhamel) LaGram, Scott Buczek, Heath Buczek and Jenna Aponte.
She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren Cole Hitchcock, Kyla and Khloe Buczek, Helena Duhamel, and Stephen and Jacoby LaGram.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday at 9:00 a.m.for visitation, followed by a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 10:30 a.m. with the Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
