Avelo Airlines offers nonstop passenger flights from Lakeland Linder International Airport. | Avelo Airlines

For those flying out of Lakeland Linder International Airport, the days of parking for free are coming to a close.

As discussed when a deal with Avelo Airlines was announced last year, the city will be installing entry and exit payment kiosks for the paved parking lot.

City commissioners are set to approve $1.15 million to pay for them at Monday’s City Commission meeting.

Airport Director Kris Hallstrand said they are hoping that the paid parking will begin sometime by the end of April. The funds will generate revenue for the airport.

The plan is to keep costs substantially lower than Tampa and Orlando International Airports.

Hallstrand has said in previous meetings that it would cost up to $10 a day. The first four hours will remain free for those doing business at the airport or enjoying the restaurant.

According to TIA’s website, the maximum charge is $28 per 24 hours, with a 45-day limit.

The long-term garage is $22 per 24-hour period, while economy parking is $18 per day.

Reserving parking in advance shows a rate of $15.50 per 24 hours for the economy garage.

Orlando International parking garages are $24 per day, long-term parking lots are $20 per day and economy lots are $14 per day. There are also off-airport parking lots for about half that rate.

  1. Soon everything will be as expensive as MCO and TPA cities are always very very Hungry for $$$ less than 5 years will cost the same as the other two Airports want to bet?

  2. It’s going to be LESS MONEY to park at The Orlando or Tampa airports than our OWN Lakeland Linder

  3. Well i guess we all knew this was coming, god forbid locals can get a break, but they removed the restaurant which locals loved to go to, and where is this garage being built or when?

  4. What a deal. Taxpayers pay 1.5million to install entry and exit machinery. If they would pay me 1million dollars, l would supply personal and security onsite 24 hours a day 7 days a week . Who got the no bide contract to install the equipment to generate revenue for airport. STEPHEN J. GRIFFIN Lakeland, Fl. 33803

  5. Going from $0 to (up to) $10 per day, then comparing that to two of the largest airports in Florida (TPA and MCO). Clearwater/St. Pete Airport (prob a better comparison) Economy parking is $10 per day, and they’ll shuttle you right up to the terminal. So there’s that. It’s solely a revenue-generating opportunity with no extra added value. Parking fees to accommodate growth was inevitable, but implementing charges absent added value – not a smart business move, nor will it help Avelo’s short-term expansion efforts.

  6. You can take Uber to Orlando or Tampa for the same cost as parking for 10 days at Lakeland, which removes the advantage of lower cost.

  7. The cost of parking maybe cheaper Avelo doesn’t have the choice of flights Tampa or Orlando have. if you are going to the cities Avelo flies too that’s great. I would bet most of us that live in Lakeland don’t have a need to fly to the cities Avelo serves. They quit flying to Atlanta which is a major city and gateway to other cities. I don’t see my wife and myself flying to any city Avelo serves. What are we the taxpayers getting from Avelo coming to Lakeland. For me and others. Absolutely nothing. The Lakeland city commissioners gave Avelo a lot of concessions to be here.
