It started with just one idea. Betsy Bohrer, a Lakeland artist moving into the next chapter of her career, saw an opportunity to stay connected and creative by spearheading a small summer indoor fine art invitational. In 2017, Fine Art at the Magnolia (FAM) became a reality. Now in its ninth year, the art show draws 800 to 1,000 attendees annually.
While her three children, Zoe, Ridley, and Zach, help her organize the event, Bohrer uses her network to bring artists from throughout Florida with the goal of connecting working artists with the community. The show includes 20 fine artists and craftsmen exhibiting paintings, sculptures, mixed media, jewelry and more.

“I call them my FAM-ily,” say Bohrer, stressing the first syllable and referring to the artists and attendees. The close relationship between the Bohrers and the artists is enhanced through filmed in-studio interviews with the artists. Each year, Zoe and Betsy visit up to six new invited artists for behind-the-scenes conversations to create a pre-show film for the public to preview a few of the artists they’ll see in person at the show.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a friend, grab lunch at the Garden Bistro and take time strolling the 20 displays in the air-conditioned Magnolia Building. The event is meant to provide an authentic experience for attendees to talk to artists and create a connection between Florida artists and the community.
Fine Art at the Magnolia is co-sponsored by The City of Lakeland Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and endorsed by The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art.
