Reporter Chris Guinn talked with several people who attended a workshop on two railroad overpasses proposed for downtown Lakeland and found little support. Among other concerns, critics wondered whether the number of walkers and bicyclists using the structures to bypass long trains would justify the roughly $7 million construction costs that would be paid by the state plus maintenance paid by the city.
City commissioners are taking up the future of Florida Avenue in Dixieland and downtown on Friday. They will be discussing whether to take the contentious issue to the next step by asking the state to conduct a required project study. More
