On Friday, Sept. 11, around 8:42 a.m, Lakeland Police Department (LPD) was called to the scene of a traffic crash involving a bicyclist in the 1700 block of Harden Boulevard near Lakeland Christian School.
As he attempted to cross Harden Boulevard, a 63-year-old bicyclist was struck by an orange Ford Ranger traveling in the northbound, inside lane. LPD did not provide the bicyclist’s name.
According to a press release, LPD, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department all arrived on scene to provide life saving measures. The bicyclist was transported to Lakeland Regional Health with critical injuries. On September 13, 2026, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The driver, a 75-year-old Mulberry man, and other occupants of the Ford were not injured.
An investigation by the Traffic Homicide Unit shut down the roadway for approximately two hours while the scene was processed. This remains an open and active investigation.
