TUESDAY UPDATE: A 25-year-old woman was shot and killed Sunday night in a house in the 1000 block of Monroe Street, which is about two blocks from Lakeland High School, Lakeland police reported. Her three children, all under age eight, were unharmed and are with relatives, LPD said.

Police responded to the residence after getting reports of shots being fired around 9:25 p.m. Sunday and found a woman with gunshot wounds.

Police have not released the name of the victim or information about possible suspects.

Crime scene tape was being removed early Monday morning from an area near the corner of Monroe Street and Jefferson Avenue, News Channel 8 reported.

It is not known where in the house the children were when the shooting occurred, police said.
