Weather Concerns Postponing Some Events

Polk County public schools remain open day, but some local events have been postponed because of weather concerns and state agencies are closing at noon today. Local colleges remained open, but Florida Poly has cancelled tonight’s classes. Check our list below, and send information about postponements, cancellations or closings to [email protected]. We’ll update the list as more news arrives.

POSTPONED

Public schools: all outdoor activities, including JV football.

First Friday: The monthly downtown Lakeland event has been delayed one week.

Southeastern University: ribbon cutting for Buena Vida building.

Southeastern University: Women’s soccer match against Broward College

Florida Southern College: Women’s soccer match against Flagler College.

CLOSED

State agencies: Gov. Rick Scott ordered state agency offices closed in Polk and 50 other counties. The order does not affect school, county or city offices.

801 E. Main: Closed this morning but planning to open at 7 p.m. for The Spec storytelling event.

CANCELLED

Florida Polytechnic University: Thursday evening classes have been called off, but classes are scheduled to resume on Friday.
