Work began this week on a project to resurface U.S. 92/George Jenkins Boulevard between Sloan Avenue and Churchill Avenue. Until construction ends this fall, lane closures can take place anytime except 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., transportation officials say.

In addition to repaving, the project includes sidewalk improvements, new guardrails along Winston Creek and a concrete bus-stop pad near Chestnut Street.

The $2.4 million Florida Department of Transportation project was awarded to Hubbard Construction.

No work will be done at Wabash Street since the city of Lakeland plans a separate project there.
