A man suspected in a Dixieland shooting that sent a 23-year-old woman to the hospital Monday evening turned himself in to authorities this morning after his photo was posted on social media, Lakeland police said. Trayvion Arrington, 18, has been arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to spokesman Gary Gross.
The shooting victim asked that her name not be released under “Marsy’s Law,” a new victim’s right addition to the Florida Constitution, Gross said. He termed her injuries as not critical and said she is expected to recover.
The Ledger reported that friends identified the victim as Davalyn Hicks and that she identified Arrington from a photo pack.
Police also have not released the address of the shooting, other than to say it took place on Cresap Street and it was the victim’s home. Neighbors said in a neighborhood Facebook group that police told them the shooting took place at a house near Cresap Street and New York Avenue.
Police did not release the background of the victim and said they do not know the motive. However, Gross said, “It wasn’t a random, knock-on-the-door home, invasion-type” crime.
In a Facebook post, LPD thanked the many people who forwarded tips in the case to them and Heartland Crimestoppers.
