Members of Redemption Church, which has held services at RP Funding Center since the church was founded in 2016, have voted to purchase the 1.5-acre property at 145 E. Edgewood Drive that has been home to St. David’s Episcopal Church for 65 years.

The vote was unanimous, Pastor Brannen Padgett said in a video posted on Facebook Sunday night. Padgett, a Lakeland native and Kathleen High graduate, returned to his hometown from Austin, Texas, three years, to plant a church aimed at the 82 percent of the population who are not church-affiliated, according to a Florida Baptist Convention article.

A September closing is anticipated, Padgett said. The purchase price was $1.85 million, he said.

St. David’s announced last month that declining member rolls has forced it to consider options including sale of the property. The church is currently making plans to merge with St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1820 E. County Road 520A.

“We are consolidating and merging the two parishes of St. David’s and St. Stephen’s. This will happen on the St. Stephen’s property. We will not be guests or visitors. We will be fully part of the congregation,” St. David’s said in a transition outline.

St. David’s has scheduled a closing service at the Edgewood Drive location for 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 16.

Redemption Church posted a video tour of its new facility on Facebook this morning:
