WHAT: Red, White & Kaboom, a community festival with fireworks held yearly since 2004.
WHEN: Tonight, 6 to 9:15. Fireworks at 9.
WHERE: Frances Langford Promenade at Lake Mirror. (See detail map below)
ADMISSION: Free. Everyone is encouraged to bring a canned good for Volunteers in Service to the Elderly.
FOOD, DRINK: Ten food trucks, mostly near the amphitheater (See a list here.) In addition, 20 food trucks will line Munn Park from 5 to 9 as part of the downtown district’s Red, White & Blue Snack & Shop (See a list here.) Grills are not permitted; alcohol is, but not in glass bottles.
MUSIC: The City Saints, a Lakeland band playing hits with an island flair. According to their Facebook profile: “We sing praises to the God who has given us new life, freedom, and forgiveness. It’s all about Jesus!”
PARKING: City parking garages and lots are free after 5 p.m. On-street parking is free in designated spaces starting at 3 p.m. and unlimited after 5 p.m.
CONTEST: Watermelon-eating contest takes place at 7. Arrive early to sign up. There are several categories for children and adults; children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

FIREWORKS ON THE FOURTH: Fireworks at 9:15 p.m. Thursday and music by the Sofa Kings follow the Flying Tigers Game at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
