MOSAICS: Large mosaics at the Searstown Publix generated a lot of affection since the store opened in 1964. So Lakelanders were sad to learn that the owners of the plaza, now called Town Center, painted over the mosaics at what is now a a Sav-A-Lot.

CANDIDATE: Retired Circuit Judge Bob Doyel, a Democrat, has announced he will oppose Republican state Sen. Kelli Stargel next year, and the battle lines are already being drawn. He says Stargel is out of touch with people back home; she’s calling him a liberal.

POLY: Florida Poly fired its new Title IX coordinator after discovering he failed to disclose he was dismissed from a similar job at the University of Florida for using campus email to buy porno. And the UF dean who gave him an effusive recommendation has resigned, the Gainesville Sun reports.
