TRANSFERRED TEACHERS: Twelve teachers at three Polk “turnaround schools,” including Philip O’Brien Elementary and Griffin Elementary in Lakeland, are being transferred involuntarily to other schools based on scores on a state assessment.

STARGEL & CORPORATIONS: State Sen. Kelli Stargel of Lakeland was a sponsor of a new tax break that is about to give more than $500 million to some of Florida’s biggest corporations.

TRAFFIC FATALITIES: Delbert Kendall, 64, of Polk City, and Case Hurst, 40, of Winter Haven, died in a head-on collision on Main Street near Reynolds Road Wednesday evening, deputies report.
