POWER PLANT: Lakeland Electric’s coal-burning McIntosh Unit 3, disabled since February but expected to come back online May 22, will be shut down by fall 2024, the utility said Monday. The city’s Utility Committee will be tasked with deciding how to replace the lost capacity.
FATAL FIRE FOLLOWUP: An outside agency reviewing Polk Fire Rescue’s response to a November fatal fire on Rockridge Road praised the 911 operator who handled the call but found deficiencies with the on-scene team’s communication and the agency’s training and leadership development.
