SCHOOL SAFETY: City commissioners approved the document LkldNow reported about here that, among other things, authorizes the hiring of four new school safety officers. The city is paying the full costs for the rest of the school year and negotiating with the School Board, who they hope will pay 75 percent in future years.

R.I.P.: Jack Pridgen, who died in Great Falls, Va., at age 87, was a Lakeland native who went to Washington with U.S. Sen. Lawton Chiles and served as his press secretary for 18 years.
