MONUMENT: Even as Lakeland’s Confederate monument is being re-assembled in Veterans Park (see our article from yesterday), a lawsuit seeking its restoration to Munn Park has been reinstated by federal judges in Atlanta.

MURDERED: Joseph Wayne Witherington, a Lakeland man whose body was discovered in a remote orange grove, is remembered by friends as a happy and outgoing 21-year-old who enjoyed performing as a drag queen. At least one friend doesn’t agree with social media speculation that the murder was a hate crime.

MEMORIALIZED: Seventy-three years after the promenade around Lake Mirror was dedicated to Frances Langford, fan Chuck Welch has launched a website about the entertainer and the promenade | flpromenade.com
