DOWNTOWN TREES: By the time you read this, city crews will have probably finished work removing two towering Oriental sweetgum trees from the sidewalk near the fronts of Mitchell’s Coffee House and Lakeland CBD Wellness on north Kentucky Avenue. Roots were infiltrating water and sewer lines and buckling sidewalks. Young, urban-friendly trees will replace them.

ACHIEVEMENT ACADEMY: The Lakeland-based charter schools for children with developmental challenges have been given another year to find replacements for student bus services being cut by the Polk County School Board.
