GOW FIELDS was awarded the 2019 George Jenkins Award for community service from the Lakeland Chamber of Commerce. Fields spent 22 years as a Lakeland city commissioner and Mayor.

ONE MORE CHILD, a program for single mothers, unveiled its 21st rehabbed Florida home for a Lakeland mother. The program includes job-skills training and mentoring for a year. In addition, One More Child helps the mothers save for rent payments for a new apartment when they graduate.

FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE is presenting its annual Dr. John L. Spencer Symposium this Friday from 2 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in the Annie Pfeiffer Chapel. The four symposium presentations are free and open to the public. Speakers include FSC graduates Rubens Petit Homme, a doctoral candidate at the University of Louisville, and Lauryn Wolfe Gazzia, a critical care pharmacist at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
