SMOKING: Thursday saw the start of the lawsuit brought by the family of Robert McCain Sr. against cigarette maker R.J. Reynolds. McCain smoked over 50 years before dying in 2007 at 67. His family is seeking compensation from the Reynolds company.

ROUNDTABLE: The Polk County School Board held its first roundtable discussion this week. The public was invited to come discuss school issues in a relaxed setting with those board members who attended.

WRESTLING: Thursday, Tenoroc won the school’s first-ever district wrestling championship. Along with runner-up McKeel Academy, the team will advance to the first round of the regional tournament against District 10 champion Zephyrhills Christian and runner-up Tampa Prep. The matches will be at Tenoroc Thursday at 7 pm.
