POLK COUNTY: County commissioners will vote Tuesday on a measure to repeal a 2013 county ordinance that banned panhandling. The move comes after a series of court decisions could lead to a lawsuit against the county.

SPECIAL ED: Recently elected to the Polk County School Board, Lisa Miller looks to change procedures for placing special education students. Miller would like to see the school system train educators and administrators about best practices.

BAXTER TROUTMAN: The former state representative was arrested on charges of aggravated and domestic battery following an argument with his wife, a former School Board candidate, over her desire to purchase a home in her own name.

LAKELAND LOBBYIST: The city of Lakeland’s longtime lobbyist to the Florida Legislature, David Shepp, briefed city commissioners on the layout of the new Florida House of Representatives and which initiatives he expects them to introduce in the coming year.
