FREE FOOD: The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce is organizing a block party for February 24th. The Chamber is looking to have a communal dining event patterned after such events in other cities. Food is donated by the Chamber and area businesses and the purpose is to meet your neighbors. LAKELAND MAN: John Waldau of Lakeland, 36, was charged with felonies related to committing adult sexual activity with a 16 year-old. Waldau is a city of Lakeland public works employee who developed an online relationship with the victim after meeting her through another adult.

VEHICULAR HOMICIDE: Austin Cabanas, 26, of Lakeland, was charged with vehicular homicide after his 5-year-old son died December 23rd. Police say the boy died from injuries sustained when Cabanas crashed while speeding to elude police.

WET DECEMBER: Central Florida had its second-rainiest December in 103 years. The area received 7.93 inches of rain, more than 5.5 inches above the historic average.
