CITY BUDGET: City commissioners tried multiple ways to reach consensus on cutting the property tax rate Thursday night, but came up short each time. For now, they’re heading into the final budget hearing (6 p.m. Sept. 20 at City Hall) with millage set at the current rate of $5.56 for every $1,000 of taxable property value. The tentative budget approved Thursday increases the general fund from $127M to $129M but reduces the total budget from $695M to $612M.
