CONGRESS: As the Aug. 28 primary gets closer, the race for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House seat now held by Dennis Ross gets more contentious. Andrew Learned, who touts his large number of small donors, questions hard-to-trace donations to opponent Kristen Carlson. Both candidates question the party loyalty of the other, citing Carlson’s previous donations to GOP candidates and Learned’s Republican affiliation when he was younger.

SCHOOL BUSES: With school starting Monday, the Polk County school district still needs to hire 63 bus drivers and asks parents to take their children to school, if possible, the first few weeks to ease expected delays.
