DOWNTOWN DRINKING: City commissioners this morning will discuss Michael Dunn’s proposal to allow downtown restaurant and bar patrons to carry alcoholic beverages on downtown sidewalks. The Lakeland Downtown Development Authority, whose board opposed the move in a nearly unanimous vote, has prepared a list of concerns. Among them, in the words or the organization’s director: “There will be vomit.”

TRANSPORTATION PLANS: State transportation officials revealed several planned improvements for northwest Lakeland during an information session Thursday evening. Among them:

  • A walkway over Kathleen Road leading to the planned Bonnet Springs park
  • A pedestrian plaza across North Florida Ave. leading to Henley Field
  • A roundabout on Kathleen Road near Sky Power Sports to mark the entrance to a commercial/residential corridor and remind drivers to slow down.
