BUILDING HEIGHTS: A proposal that would allow taller apartments in neighborhoods close to downtown will probably be delayed again. City commissioners said Friday they want to take more time so that both they and residents of the Lake Morton area can better understand the proposal. City staffers suggested the commission vote Monday on only the portion of the proposal that affects commercial and office zones to that pending projects such as the hotel next to the RP Funding Center can proceed.

MERIT SCHOLARS: At least six Lakeland residents have been awarded National Merit Scholarships. One graduated from All Saints Academy, and the rest are graduates of the Bartow High School IB program.
