UPDATE: A Lakeland couple that was subject of a silver alert this week has been found safe in Ohio, Lakeland police say.
“Recovered in Ohio unharmed and it appears they wanted to take a road trip,” department spokesman Gary Gross told Lakeland Patch. “Case closed and no criminal charges or issues.”

Lakeland police are asking for help locating a 79-year-old woman and her 62-year-old husband who left Lake Morton Plaza around 8 p.m. Tuesday and have not returned. Their car, a blue, 2016 Hyundai Tucson (Florida tag IC2-6LN), is also missing from the senior tower at the corner of South Florida Avenue and Lime Street.
Cruz Virgil Hooten, who is 5-foot-2 and weighs 130 pounds, suffers from dementia, police said. William Brooks Hooten, who is 5-foot-10 and weighs 125 pounds, is on medication and should not be driving, according to police.
A silver alert was issued at 10 a.m. today.
