A 75-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by two cars while trying to cross U.S. 98 at Ritter Road in north Lakeland around 5:50 this morning, the Polk County Sheriff’s Department said. The victim was identified as Julio Ramos-Bueno of Lakeland.
U.S. 98 was closed until around 10:30. Both cars were heading north when they struck Ramos-Buenos, and the drivers remained at the scene, deputies said.
One of the drivers, 41-year-old Alfonso Bustos-Ugalde of Eagle Lake, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving with an expired license. His license expired in 2005, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
No other criminal charges or civil citations are expected, the Sheriff’s Office said.
