The one-way portion of North Parkway Frontage Road east of Harden Boulevard is temporarily closed as crews hired by the city make emergency repairs.

The closure affects North Parkway Frontage Road between Underpass Road and Harden. The road is expected to be repaired and open sometime Thursday, the city of Lakeland said in a news release.

A portion of the road west of the entrance to The Villas “experienced a soil failure” possibly tied to prior mining in the area, the city said.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes between Florida Avenue and Harden Boulevard.

Residents and visitors to the Villas will have access to the neighborhood and will be flagged through the closure if necessary as they exit Caribbean Drive onto North Parkway Frontage Road headed west.

Likewise, visitors to Watson Clinic South will be guided through the closure by law enforcement, according to the city news release.
