The motorcyclist who died Wednesday after speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and colliding with three vehicles in front of Santa Fe High School has been identified as José Noé Aguilar Jr., 25, of Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The 3 p.m. crash closed U.S. 92 between Combee Road and Fish Hatchery Road for more than three hours.

The westbound motorcyclist  “struck the driver’s side mirror of a Mustang, lost control and dropped the motorcycle on its side. It then slid into the left rear of a truck that was stopped in traffic in the inside lane. After striking the truck, the motorcycle continued sliding and hit an SUV stopped in the median,” according to a news release.

Aguilar was wearing the appropriate safety gear, the Sheriff’s Office said. He died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

“This is the third traffic fatality involving a motorcycle that has occurred in Polk County in the last few weeks,” spokeswoman Sherrie Morgan said.
