Organizations that won awards in the 2019 Lakeland Martin Luther King Jr. Parade were recognized today at a meeting of the Lakeland City Commission. Awards were announced by Natalie Gallon, assistant parks superintendent, who said next year’s parade will be the last she helps coordinate because she will be retiring.

The parade was held Jan. 12. First-place winners received trophies today. Winners were:

Best Walking Unit

  2. Academy Prep Center of Lakeland
  3. Goodie Treats

Best Decorated Vehicle

  1. Buffalo Soldiers
  2. New Negro Black Baseball
  3. NAACP

Best Decorated Float

  1. Neighborhood Association Coalition
  2. Washington Park/Rochelle Alumni
  3. Citrus Connection

Best Step/Cheer Group

  1. Lovely Ladies
  2. Panthers Elite
  3. Extreme Team

Judges Choice Awards

  • Best Church: Church of God – Winter Haven
  • Best Performing Band: Lakeland High School
  • Best Creative Overall Unit: Big Dreams Boxing & Fitness Academy
