Lake Morton action

Beatty Raymond, right, and Nancy Noonan were among about 20 Lake Morton-area residents calling attention to safe driving practices around the lake this afternoon. Their goal is to increase awareness of the distracted driving that has led to the death of five swans and injury of a jogger in recent weeks. About one-fifth of the drivers who passed were holding cellphones, one participant estimated. The city reduced the speed limit on Lake Morton Drive from 25 to 20 mph recently and is planning to unveil other safety improvements in coming weeks.
