Irene Delores Riggs-Melton, 83

Irene Riggs-Melton, 83, passed into Heavenly repose on May 15, 2021.

The beautiful life of Ms. Irene Riggs-Melton began in Statesboro, Ga., on May 29th 1937. She was born to proud parents; the late Mr. Raleigh Riggs & Mrs. Mary Jane Riggs. Irene and her family; including her siblings Anna Laura Riggs-Knight, Doris Riggs, and Virgil Riggs, moved to Lakeland when they were young children. Irene’s siblings also proceeded her in death.

Irene was educated in the Polk County Public School System and was an alum graduate of Rochelle Sr. High School. After high school, Ms. Melton was married to the late Mr. Daniel Melton, and also became a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness in Lakeland. She devoted her life to care for others and service; professionally, as a devout Jehovah’s Witness, and as an adoring family member and friend.

Irene leaves to cherish fond memories of her; 3 sons, Reginald Melton, Antonio Melton, and Doren Melton, all of Lakeland. She also leaves a host of beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Especially close to Ms. Melton, of the host of innumerable loved ones, was her dedicated niece Katie Haggins, and devoted friend Maxine Gomez-Knighten.
