A lot of people have been wondering about the loud fighter jets screaming overhead lately. It turns out that they are part of a military training program being conducted by Drakken International at Lakeland Linder Airport.

Shannon Lanier, familiar to many as the former director of Lakeland Vision, wondered aloud about the aircraft on Facebook. (I’d embed the conversation here but privacy settings won’t allow it.)

Updated at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, to add City of Lakeland Facebook message.

Assistant City Manager Tony Delgado provided an answer: “Friends, we are obviously sorry for the inconvenience but the exercises will only be for another week. Our tenant Drakken International operates ‘Top Gun’ style programs for both international and USA military training programs and this is one of them.”

Not to worry, Tony. Nobody commenting on Shannon’s post expressed concern about the noise. Most said they were interested in seeing the exercises. And a few said they want a ride. I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
