Faye Gurlene Mayes, 82, passed away on May 31, 2021.

Faye was born in Ray City, GA to parents James and Ethel Pittman on November 7, 1938. She moved to the Lakeland area 74 years ago and has since remained a resident of Polk County. She retired from the Polk County School Board as an elementary school teacher at Winston Elementary, and was a member of Kathleen Baptist Church.

Faye is preceded in death by son William Keith Anderson; first husband Morgan Anderson; husband Robert Mayes; brothers Edwin & Gene Pittman; and sister Ruth Kirkland. She is survived by son Ricky (Barbara) Anderson; daughter Lynn (Todd) Cranor; brother Earl (Martha) Pittman; sisters Shirley Huff & Virginia Holt;11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday June 3rd from 5 to 6 p.m. at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens Chapel, 3350 Mall Hill Drive. Service will follow at 6 p.m. Committal will take place at Oak Hill Burial Park on Friday June 4th at 10 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Homes.
