Lakeland resident Michael Louis Dimezza, 53, died around 5:30 this morning when his motorcycle was hit from behind by Polk County garbage contractor’s truck, according to Lakeland Police.

The truck driven by Alvin T. Lamar, 43, was northbound on North Socrum Loop Road when it hit Dimezza, who was stopped at a traffic signal at Lakeland Park Boulevard, LPD said.

LPD’s traffic homicide unit is investigating, and no charges have been filed yet, according to an LPD news release.

Northbound lanes of Socrum Loop were closed for four hours following the accident.

Lamar works for FCC Environmental Services, which holds a county contract to pick up refuse in West Polk and is conducting its own investigation of the accident, The Ledger reported.
